oh what a beautiful morning

This is a cover I did for the Oklahoma Gazette. The assignment was to transform the leader of a local energy concern into something of a Willy Wonka character. I liked working for the Gazette and I hope I get to again soon. The whole time I was working on this I had the Oklahoma! soundtrack going through my head, it was great.

Derailed

This is a piece I did for the Madison Isthmus a while back. I think it had to do with a story about children and hobbies. It was nice because I got to use my nephew Miles as reference for the boy and he loves trains.

"O" Face

This is an Obama illustration I did a while back to drum up some work. I like to use Obama as subject matter from time to time because he usually gets me a couple more gigs.

More Me

Sometimes when I want to sketch something quickly or dick around with Photoshop I'll just draw another self portrait. And today is no different. So here is yet another self portrait.

Take Cover!

The nice people at Fort Worth Weekly sent me a copy of the cover I did with all the text included so I thought I would share it. It's always a treat to see text incorporated into my illustrations. If you are in Fort Worth pick up a copy, it's free!

iron what?

I love the character of Iron Fist, he's so cool. The next big comic book movie should really be about him, he tackles issues!

Fans

With World Cup going on I remembered an illustration about rowdy fans I did for Philadelphia Weekly a while back. I find it funny whenever I have to do something related to sports because I am just so painfully ignorant on the subject.

Marks the spot

I love the old costumes of the original X-Men. Those blue and yellow suits were just too cool, I wish they would bring them back.

Birth Day

I really love the work of director Jonathan Glazer, I think he's got some just fantastic stuff. He did a film called Birth and after watching it I just fell in love with the movie. So as a sort of tribute I drew little something.

Chow Down

I did a brochure for a vet clinic a while back. It was nice because I got to draw some animals which I don't normally get to do. But then I turned it into a poster, I like the poster better than the brochure.

Yeti Redux

I never felt like I gave this one a fair shake so I decided to go back and revisit it. Since I was rushed the first time around it was nice to take this slow and really work at it a bit more. I was happy with the original but I’m really glad I got to go back and update this one.

Fort Listen

I got another job from the wonderful people at Fort Worth Weekly this week, it was for the cover story about city hall not listening to the people. As always it was an extreme pleasure working with them, I hope everyone in Fort Worth likes the illustration. If you would like to see the full illustration and read the story go here.

Pimp My Illustration

I really love the music of rapper Xzibit. So when I was trying to think of something to draw for a new desktop image I immediately thought of him. I drew this and now whenever I turn on my computer I’m inspired to do my best. Thanks Xzibit.

illustration Madness

This is an illustration I did for Philadelphia Weekly a while back. The article was about making money from recycled grease or something. I wish I could take other peoples junk and turn it into cash. Too bad illustrations don't work that way.

Lazy Sunday

I’m a little busy working on a commission today so I’m gonna post a old piece I did for the Dayton City Paper. It was for an article about the whole AIG scandal. It was a good experience working on this one, had a lot of fun. Anyway gotta bet back to the drawing board.

Pay no mind

A promotional illustration I did on the concept of mind clutter.

Beer Garden

Did this illustration for OC Weekly a while back. It was for an article about the local German beer gardens I think, not totally sure on that one. Anyway it was fun working with them and cool that I got to put an illustration on a coaster.

Vive la France!

I discovered the music of France Gall not too long ago and now I totally have a huge crush on her. Once again another instance where I wish I had a time machine for the sole purpose of hitting on a girl. I'm positive that she would go crazy for an American illustrator claiming to be from the future, that's just how thing are. If you have never heard of her go here.

Lethal Bizzle

I really love the music of British rapper Lethal Bizzle. So I decided to show my appreciation by drawing a portrait of him. If you have never heard of him, check out his music here.

Private Parts

I’m not big on Facebook to start, and with their recent privacy issues it just makes me even more weary of the website. Since so many people seem to be slinging arrows at founder Mark Zuckerberg I thought it would make for a good illustration. Had a lot of fun on the colors for this one.

World at War

I really love the Call of Duty games, especially those set in WWII. I hadn’t been a big fan of FPS games until I tried my first COD but when I did I was hooked. When I got a new PC almost exclusively for gaming I decided to make a custom desktop image for it. So I drew my friend and I in WWII gear with guns at the ready, it gets me in the right mindset for going on a virtual rampage.

Sausage Fest

I went to a party of almost all dudes and was inspired to draw this. Not much else to say about this one except that I wish more parties advertised like this. In my opinion there are just not enough illustrated poster advertising these days.

Going Green

It’s my feeling that the Green Lantern (especially Hal Jordan) wasn’t nearly as badass as his powers were. I mean he could totally f you up with that ring. With the exception of Batman the Justice League heroes just seemed a little to clean-cut, they really needed an anti hero bad boy on the team and that could have been GL. Well here is my rendition of such a man, a costumed hero that won’t take gruff from you or the color yellow!

Nintendo Power

I busted out my old NES the other night and played one of my favorites: Super Mario Bros 2. I only had a handful of NES games when I was a kid and Mario 2 was one of them, needless to say I played the hell out of it. It was only later that I found out the games back-story, that it was originally a game called Doki Doki Panic retrofitted to be a Mario game. Mario 2 still has a special place in my heart and since playing again I’ve had Nintendo on the brain.

What a Wonderful World

I think Wonder Woman is one of the great classic comic book characters. Her outfit and powers are just so ridiculous and awesome that she has to be the best female character in both the Marvel or DC universe. Plus she has the added bonus of being a super hot sexy babe, what’s not to love? I’m still holding out hope that the W.W. movie gets made, she needs and update.

The Biz

When I decided to become a freelance illustrator I didn’t realize how much time I would be spending on the business side of things. I thought it was appropriate that I got to do an illustration on that very subject for Madison Magazine. I had fun on this one because the subject hit close to home and the art director was great to work with. I just can’t say enough good things about my experience with this illustration.

Summer Time Fun

It’s so great to finally have nice weather here in Wisconsin. After a long, hard winter of staying in from the cold it’s great to be getting some exercise in the warm sun. Here is a piece I did a while back for OC Weekly. They were great to work with, I hope to do some more for them again soon.
