The Mitchell building the year it was built in 1876 and in 2011. Built for Alexander Mitchell a Milwaukee banker and railroad tycoon for the purpose of housing his Marine Bank of Wisconsin, which it did until 1930. The site was once the residence of Milwaukee founder Solomon Juneau. Mitchell (October 17, 1817 – April 19, 1887) was probably the richest person in Milwaukee at the time, his mansion on Wisconsin Avenue is now home to the Wisconsin Club. Mitchell was also an avid curler, he helped found the Milwaukee Curling Club in 1845, his grandson Billy Mitchell is regarded as the father of the U.S. Air Force.
